Should You Buy RTX 2060 Super in 2026? Full Performance Analysis

Designed as a powerful upper mid-range graphics card for seamless 1080p and entry-level
1440p gaming, NVIDIA released the RTX 2060 Super in 2019. It immediately gained popularity among gamers looking for balanced performance thanks to its 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM and enhanced core performance over the original RTX 2060.

However, a number of new GPU generations have changed performance benchmarks in Whether the RTX 2060 Super still makes sense to buy in the current gaming environment is the main question at hand.

Benchmark Performance in Modern Games

At launch, the RTX 2060 Super performed marginally worse than the RTX 2070 and nearly as well as the GTX 1080. Compared to many 6GB alternatives of the time, its 8GB VRAM gave it a longer lifespan.

In the gaming scenarios of 2026:

  • 1080p Gaming: On medium to high settings, the RTX 2060 Super can still run the majority of contemporary games at 60 to 75 frames per second. Ray tracing may need to be disabled and textures reduced in heavier AAA games in order to preserve fluid gameplay. 
  • 1440p Gaming: Many games can be played at medium settings, with an average frame rate of 45–60 fps, depending on optimization and game demands. 

Ray tracing is a new capability and therefore not fully available in RTX generation 1 cards. Turning it on frequently results in frame drops. DLSS has the ability to enhance performance in supported games but performance gains are not as high as other newer architectures.

Games that can be competitive with shooters or which are light in multiplayer are quite easy to get above 100 FPS at 1080p, and so are very appropriate with high-refresh monitors. 

All in all, RTX 2060 Super still can be used to play games at 1080p, however, it is not good at more sophisticated graphical effects

Advantages of the RTX 2060 Super in 2026

The 8GB VRAM configuration has continued to be one of its strongest points. In 1080p gaming, this gives a large headroom to most modern games when settings are then optimized.

Mature driver support and compatibility with DLSS is also an advantage to the card and increases the lifespan of supported games. It also provides similar results to players who prioritize rasterized performance over a ray tracing one. 

Power consumption is medium, and works with typical quality 500W to 600W power supplies. This enables it to be easily integrated into the existing systems without major upgrades. 

It may still be a sensible performer with budget conscious buyers, as long as it is offered at a much lower price than the newer models. 

Disadvantages and Limitations

The RTX 2060 Super, being as strong as it is, obviously demonstrates its age in 2026. It has lower performance-per-watt efficiency than more modern GPUs based on more modern architectures. 

First-generation RTX cores are a limitation to ray tracing. In modern mid-range GPUs, ray tracing and AI-generated features including frame generation are much improved.

Although 8GB VRAM is still functional, with newer AAA games going past that point with ultra settings, concessions are necessary to texture quality to eliminate stuttering. 

Future-proofing is another weakness. The RTX 2060 Super might not cope with other titles in the next few years due to the continuously growing game requirements.
